Hello my friends!
I’m so excited about this month’s monthly challenge, which is Decorating with Thrifty and Vintage Finds.
If you follow my blog at all, you know that this one is near and dear to my heart. My hubby and I got married young, which meant we had zero money when we started out. Back then, I decorated with vintage pieces and vintage furniture that I picked up at yard sales out of necessity … not because it was the trendy thing to do. Back then I would be jealous of my friends’ homes that were decorated with “sets” of furniture from stores, because I couldn’t afford them.
I was surprised to find out that they were jealous when they came to my house because they thought my decor and furniture had so much character. Plus there was the fact that my whole dining set cost me $60, where theirs cost over $1000!
Fast forward 20 years, and the vintage decor has stuck with me. I get great satisfaction taking something that I paid 50 cents for and transforming it into something I am proud of.
It’s amazing what a little paint and some imagination can do!
Let’s start with my mantel.
It was originally a honey oak that I was over, so I painted it white while Topher was in Chicago.
I found my giant gold mirror at a yard sale, and I found these old frames at a vintage shop.
I made my little burlap banner, and I found these little pink vases at Target.
I found this vintage secretary that I made over at a yard sale, as well as this mirror, vintage books, and these finials.
This upcycled armoire came from a yard sale. You should have see the mess it was before!
My gallery wall was all yard sale finds that were made over with a little paint.
Make sure you head over to the other lovely ladies in the tour below and check out their vintage decor!

I too would have loved to have a “set” of furniture back in the day! Mine were all pieced together from what I could afford. If I had to start over today, I’d buy my sofas from a retailer, then look for everything else at thrift stores, etc! Love all your thrifty décor…the mantel with its new white paint makes a great backdrop for your gorgeous frames! XOXO
