In case you have never remodeled a house before, I’ll let you in on a little secret. It’s gonna be expensive. You do one upgrade, like paint your walls and trim, only to find out your doors now look terrible.
So then you paint your doors, and then you realize your doorknobs have to go.
See where I’m going with this? It’s a vicious cycle people.
So while in this never ending vortex, I try to cut costs whenever I can without sacrificing the quality.
One thing I priced while making over our hallway was doorknobs and hinges, and man can those add up when you need a million of them. I didn’t realize how many freaking doors we had until I went to replace them all.
My dilemma was, I wanted cool knobs and hinges that I saw in the magazines, but didn’t want to have to sell my plasma to get them. I searched all over the internet and the prices were crazy.
Just when I was about to roll up my sleeves for the phlebotomist, I came across Door Corner.
There they had the matte black knobs and hinges I wanted at a much more reasonable cost. Now my dilemma was which ones to choose!
I went with the Villa.

I’d love to order these for our new lake house! On their website, the screw holes look odd. And the photo of yours installed doesn’t show any screws on the sides of the handle (which I love). So is there a plate that conceals the screws?
Which did you go with? Villa passenger door?

I am trying to determine if you should mix and match the door knobs. Like some handles and some knobs or should the handles only be for exterior doors and knobs for the inside. Thoughts?
I personally did handles on my normal doors (like bedroom and hallway doors) and the round knobs on my closet doors. I don’t think there is any real right or wrong way to do it, that was just my personal opinion. They are a great quality and at a great price!

I found your blog and saved this to my Dream Home Pinterest board back when you wrote this. Eight years later we have reached that retirement milestone and began building our final home-sweet-home. After nearly a year of searching and finding a great builder, we are at last are to the fun stage of adding all the ‘house jewelry’ on our custom build project. I just received my order of the matte black Villa door hardware this week. Although their pricing has gone up since your original post, (what hasn’t, right?), it is STILL the best price on the internet. I love its timeless European influenced design. Without doubt, it will add even more charm to our new cottage style home. Thank you for sharing your find so many years ago. I might have had to settle for builder grade stock. Again. Horrors, lol.
