Blue Little Love Bird Bench

Love-Bird-Bench

Hello my friends! Today is themed furniture makeover day!! This month's theme is animals! I'll be honest ... I had to get creative on this one! In the spring, while at a yard sale, I came across this bench for $12. It was in good shape but totally plain and boring. I knew some Plaster Paint could breathe some life into it, so I applied two coats of Ocean Breeze. Once that dried, I grabbed my Small Love Birds Lace Damask stencil from Royal Design Studio. … [Read more...]

How to Reupholster a Bench

Reupholstered-Bench

This my friends is probably one of the easiest tutorials I have ever shown you. I know that a lot of people will bypass upholstered pieces of furniture at yard sales/thrift stores, etc. because they are intimidated by the whole recovering process. I too used to be one of those people. To this day are there pieces that I still bypass because they are way too much work?  Absolutely. Projects that only need the seat recovered are way easier than you might think though. … [Read more...]

Classic Update on a Vintage Chair

Painted-Vintage-Chair

Guess what today is? It's Furniture Themed Thursday, where my bloggy buddies and I all share our projects according to that month's theme. This month our theme was: chairs. A few weeks back, my parents were at an estate sale and picked-up this little guy for me. I loved the shape, but the green velvet simply had to go. Since I am not one who sews, reupholstering that cushion was not going to happen, so I knew I had to make it over with paint. … [Read more...]

Pink Plaster Painted Vintage Chair

In the past, I would go to yard sales and see amazing upholstered vintage chairs, and I would pass them by. The fabric usually looked worn,  and I didn't want to dish out the money to have it reupholstered. Then a few months ago, I tried my hand at painting the actual fabric. It turned out great! So when my mom saw that a neighbor had left this outdated, peach number out on the curb, she scooped it up and brought it home for me to work a little magic on. … [Read more...]

Our Mini Getaway and Plaster Painted Kitchen Chairs

Happy Monday everyone!  I hope you all had a great weekend! We ended up going to Kansas City last Thursday and Friday. Thursday, we went back-to-school shopping for the kiddo. It was absolutely the most perfect day for it. We went shopping on the Plaza and the weather was gorgeous. We ate at Bucca Di Beppo for lunch (which is so not healthy) ...  but they have the most amazing pasta there. For dinner we went to Macaroni Grill, which again is carb central ... but in all fairness we … [Read more...]

Plaster Painted Vintage Child’s Chair

The countdown to Haven (my blogging conference) is on!  I will be leaving Thursday morning at the buttcrack of dawn -- or 5:00 AM if you want to get precise. For the girl that doesn't usually go to bed until 2 or 3 AM, that means one thing...dark circles. This week, I have been crossing things off of my list:  Hair cut and highlighted ... Done.  Much needed pedicure ... Done.  Gift for my roommate (which was incredibly hard since I have never met her in real life) ... Done.   Last … [Read more...]

Turquoise Dining Table

DiningSet

I'm pretty excited about this post! It's been a long time coming. Shortly after moving into our house eight years ago, we purchased a nice glass table and chair set. I regretted that purchase almost immediately!  Glass table + busy family = constant, smudgy mess.  This table has been wiped down at least 1,000,000 times. It's almost uncanny how quickly this thing gets dirty.  I'll wipe it down so it's spotless, walk into the next room, come back and see that some poltergeist ran smeary … [Read more...]

Happy Monday Everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend! I was going to city-wide yard sales Saturday, but with the rain and freezing temperatures, we decided to pass. I did, however, take the fur babies to get groomed ... and that was a disaster. Topher and I had all three of them freaking-out in the car while the rain was pouring on us. Gracie freaked out so much she pooped in the back of the car (my car, too), and then in frantic pacing managed to walk through it! Poop paw prints … [Read more...]

Cane Back Chair Farewell

Cane_Back_Chairs

Over the summer I found a great set of cane back chairs at a yard sale. They were filthy and yellow with horrendous teal velvet seats. I got them late into garage sale season, so at that point my garage and basement were packed, and I may have promised Topher I wouldn't bring home anything else until the garage was cleared out. These were too good of a deal, but I knew I would have to get these redone and resold quickly so Topher wouldn't blow a gasket. I do recall the day I got them -- … [Read more...]

Restoration Redoux’s Top Ten Projects of the Year!!!!!

www.restorationredoux.com - White Dresser

Since we are about to start off a new year, I thought I would reflect on this year's favorite posts. When I first started reading other DIY blogs, I have to admit I was a bit intimidated. Every project they did looked so perfect. When there was a tutorial, a lot of them used terms or techniques I wasn't familiar with, and so I would never try them. I was searching for a blog that brought it down to a beginner's level. I wanted one that would say "Hey, I'm no expert, but this is what did or … [Read more...]
