Hello friends!
As you know, a while back I told you that my brother and sister-in-law were expecting twins.
Well a few weeks ago, Elsie Jo and Emmy Lynn made their way into the world, and they couldn’t be cuter! They are joining their 3 year old sister, and to say their parents have their hands full would be an understatement.
When my sister-in-law was getting ready to decorate my older niece’s nursery, I made over an old dresser into this striped little changing table.
So when it was time to decorate the twins’ nursery, I of course had to make a changing table for them!
The piece we started out with was one I picked up from an estate sale.
It was in rough shape but it had potential.
Here is what I used to transform it: (affiliate links included)
- CitriStrip
- Orbital Sander
- Fine Sanding discs
- Minwax Stain in Dark Walnut
- Sherwin William’s (but you could use whatever color or brand you choose)
- Miss Mustard Seed’s Furniture Wax
- Crystal Knobs
The dresser had about 4 layers of paint underneath, including a lovely bright purple.
I knew I wanted a stained top, so I broke out the CitriStrip and got to work. After I removed all of the paint, I used my orbital sander and sanded the whole top to make sure I had an even surface to work with.
I then used 2 coats of Minwax’s Dark Walnut Stain to give it the pretty dark color I was looking for.
I then mixed some Sherwin Williams paint in Grenadine into chalk paint. You can find my chalkpaint recipe here.
I gave it two coats, and once that was dry I sealed it with Miss Mustard Seed’s Furniture Wax.
I then replaced the knobs that were on it with some pretty crystal knobs I found on Amazon.
All said and done I think it turned out really cute!
