Welcome to Restoration Redoux!

I’m Shanna, and this is a little project I’ve been thinking about for years, but just recently starting putting in place.

I’m a wife,a stay at home mom of 3 dogs, a cat and a teenage daughter.

I’m a lover of yard sales, decorating, DIY and great deals. I believe decorating doesn’t require a lot of money just a lot of creativity.

I’m far from a DIY expert, but hopefully in this blog you can learn from some triumphs, and mistakes, and have a little fun along the way.

Hi Shanna! My name is Nicole and I too live in the Wichita area. I share the same interest and have refinished a number of projects that I have sold at Absolute Vintage. If you haven’t been there you should go to just at least look. They have great ideas and the girls there are fun. I marked your blog as a favorite to follow you and I have also started a blog….I really need to get going with it. If you look at it just know I am in my infancy! Also, I am trying to get a few of us together to meet and see if we want to start a once a month meeting for “brainstorming” or working on projects. Let me know if you are interested. I’m a pharmaceutical sales rep by day and never run into people who do what we do…..garage saling, rescue curb trash, and get their hands dirty in repurposing “trash to treasure”! I hope that you will join me and another amazing girl (Karen) who loves to do the same.

Hello! Shanna, are you on FB or Twitter? I’d love to follow you. I’m a total tech-challenged person & embarrassed to say that I cannot figure out how to follow blogs :-/ And…not for lack of trying!! If anyone has any tips to explain to me, I’d greatly appreciate it. LOVE your site!

    Hi!
I just found you (it’s 4:30 am) and I have to write. I was perusing Better After and your amazing chandelier popped up and grabbed my attention immediately. Wow! I just love what you did to make it so beautiful.
My first reason to write was to ask if you ever gave advice to us DIY challenged folks? But then, as I explored your site, I found Charlie and it was love at first sight! We have a Charlie, too, only her name is Lizzy. I am a stay-at-home-mom of two cats (kittens, really), one Maltese and a teen age daughter. I also love garage sales and such but lack the confidence to tackle projects. I can see the potential in things but lack the know-how and confidence to try it. The thought of buying something, trying to fix it up and then, heaven forbid, RUINING IT!!!, makes me shrink from even trying. So, back to my original question: Would you mind if I sent you some pictures and then asked your advice? I think my e-mail address will show up for you so if you don’t mind, please e-mail me an answer. I would greatly appreciate it!
I’m looking forward to reading more of your posts and learning how some new decorating tips!
    Thanks,
    Joy

Hi Joy! My advice would be to start small. I would get a $5 table you get at a yard sale, and start with that. As long as you are working on something that isn’t monumentally important to you (such as your great grandmothers dresser from the 1800′s) it won’t be the end of the world if you mess it up. The majority of the projects I work on, do not end up the way I thought they would. Most of the time I like them better though. I would just keep an open mind. Sometimes I think a piece will look great this gray color with light distressing, and it turns out that the gray looks a little pinkish and the distressing turns out very chippy. Working with furniture (especially vintage furniture) you never know what your going to get. What’s the worst that could happen? You get it finished and hate it and do it over? Or you just hate it so much you throw it away and you are out five bucks?(I have a table in my studio right now that I will be dropping off at goodwill because I can’t stand to look at it anymore). I’ve only ended up throwing out two pieces the rest have all worked out so I’m sure you will be fine. No one thinks they are crafty until they get up to their elbows in paint and realize this piece of furniture can be whatever you want it to be. There are no rules here. Just don’t take it seriously and have fun! You sound like me being up until 4:30, are you an insomniac also? I think it’s raising these teenagers, they stress you out. You are welcome to send me pictures, I would love to see what you are working on!

    Hi-

I love your turquoise table & Set of white chairs and am very interested in purchasing them. I was wondering what you are asking for them? If you could email me, that would be great.

    Thank you!
