Last night I could not sleep. It was one of those nights where it just wasn’t happening.
Topher woke up at 5:00 this morning, and I was still just laying there. So when I got out of bed, everything was just achy. I think it was a mixture of the no sleep and the I’m-getting-old thing … which really sucks.
So out the door I go to let the pups out while still in my jammies. I’m barely awake, and I walk face first into the most ginormous spider web! Ugh! I’m flailing around all across my deck, and my eyes still aren’t even all the way open yet.
Just as I get most of it off me, I turn around to go back inside and Gracie comes flying up to me with a huge glob of poop stuck to her tail.
awesome.
She’s looking up at me like “do something”. So my choices are: A.) let her in the house like this knowing she will drag her rear-end all over my carpet the second she gets in the door, or B.) use my hand to remove it.
As disgusting as it was B won out. I figured my hand would be easier to clean than the carpet.
At this point I have been awake a total of 3 minutes. Let’s recap my friends: I’ve had zero sleep, my body looks (and feels) like it has been in a car wreck, I have walked through the biggest spider web known to man, probably pulled a muscle trying to slither out of this web, and I now have dog poo all over my hand.
The day has to start getting better.
Speaking of getting better, I thought I would share this thrift store makeover with you.
I found this carousel horse at Goodwill for $3 a few months ago. When I brought it home Topher thought I spent $3 too much. I had a hard time arguing what I saw in this dirty, country (and not in a good way country), dusty blue horse. Yes I know the ribbons push it waaayyy over the edge.
Before:
The first thing I did was clean it up and cut those ribbons off.
I repainted the base a brick red and distressed it. I painted the pole and touched up its feet with some black paint. I then used an antiquing glaze over the whole horse and base.
That was it.
It took me around 15 minutes to clean Seabiscuit up. It just shows that with little effort you can make something new again!

Love this! I have always wanted a large old wooden carousel horse. I’m not sure where I would put the thing, but I’m sure I could figure it out!
