Glamour Queen

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you had a great weekend!

We started thawing-out on Sunday … just in time for another round of snow. If the weathermen are to be trusted, we are expected to get another 9-15 inches between Monday and Tuesday. My daughter is trying to use the power of positive thinking in order to get yet another snow day.

The unnamed child and I were doing our own version of Fashion Police while watching the Oscars last night. (By the way we both think Naomi Watts wins hands down). For the child, the glitzier the better.

I was thinking back, and her entire life she has been drawn to things with a “high sparkle factor” (she maybe could have possibly got that from her mother seeing Topher isn’t much of the sequin type). When making Valentine’s mailboxes in Elementary school, hers always had to be covered in rhinestones. Her lunch box would be made out of metallic silver material. Thanks to my ridiculously talented aunt, her Halloween costumes were always varied and amazing with their uniqueness and their glam: one year she wore a replica of a red sequin flapper ensemble from the 20′s; other years, she was Dorthy (from Oz) and her amazingly bejeweled ruby slippers; an ice skater with a cape (think bling); and a shiny, glimmery gypsy costume, complete with giant rings and necklaces so flashy it would make Flavor Flav look like a wallflower.

Nothing has changed as she’s grown older. Now all she does is show me what blinged-out dress she found on Pinterest for homecoming (yes she’s a Pinterest junkie too), what new iridescent eye shadow she wants, and what sparkly bikini she has-to-have for the summer. This year, we spent weeks searching for just the right backpack before settling on one covered in gold sequins.

Speaking of glamorous, here is my newest little project. I got this little vintage vanity and it was spray painted an ugly brown. I decided this little piece needed some glitz. Instead of using my normal chalkpaint, I decided to use a metallic silver paint.

I had to coat this badboy with four solid coats and one touch up coat (the brown kept peaking through). I then glazed it with an antiquing glaze to make it look aged a bit. I spray painted the hardware a metallic gray. I think it turned out gorgeous! The pictures really don’t do it justice. They don’t pick up the sheen.

It would be so cute in a little girl’s bedroom or as a makeup station for a not-so-little girl.

I will be putting it on Craigslist later this week after I get a couple coats of poly on her.
